Why Campus Ministry?

The college years mark the transition into adulthood. During these years students form their view of the world and choose for themselves the course their lives will take. Jesus needs to be a part of that process and that is why campus ministry exists.

The current college environment does not encourage faith. In some cases, it is hostile, but mostly faith is seen as irrelevant, a hobby or a curiosity, but not significant.

The local church is vital and essential to the Christian mission, but there needs to be more. College campuses exist as fairly self-contained environments, cities within cities. Students focus primarily on what is happening within the confines of the campus environment. There needs to be an active witness within that environment if we expect students' lives to be effected by the gospel. We are called to go to them rather than expect them to come to us.

Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, [20] and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Mat 28:18-20)

As campus missionaries, we have several goals:

To make the gospel known on campus — Studies have shown that Biblical illiteracy is at an all-time high in the United States. Today, we cannot say that most Americans have heard the gospel and rejected it. Most of our youth have not yet heard the gospel at all. We are in danger of losing a generation. We have gone to the college campus to make sure that doesn't happen.

To help Christian students navigate the challenges and tough questions they will face — Christians should never run away from a challenge. With God's help we can weather anything, but we can't do it alone. Christians are meant to grow, minister, and serve in community. We are an extension of the local church so that students have someone to stand with them as they make important decisions in their life. No one should have to face the world alone.

To help students grow in their knowledge and application of Scripture — Only the knowledge of Christ through Scripture and its application will lead to a life of wisdom, peace, and righteousness. We make sure that every student can learn to read and understand Scripture for themselves, and help them to apply the truth of God to every part of their lives.

To equip students for a lifetime of service to God — Our goal is to prepare students for their postgraduate life of faith. We prepare them to become good churchmen and women. We help them to become witnesses to the gospel in whatever environment God places them in. We not only want them to live out a healthy life in Christ but to be witness and agents of change wherever they find themselves.
