What is Chi Alpha Campus Ministries? For decades now, world leaders have acknowledged that the college and universities of America are the most influential institutions in the world. It is here that emerging adults have their worldview and values shaped. It is here that students choose the beliefs that will shape their life. If Christians are not prepared to support the ministries that are willing to enter the college community and represent the truth of the gospel there, then we deserve the world that results. We should go out into all the world to proclaim the gospel in obedience, but we should especially occupy the pivot points of the world. Following the Biblical example of the Apostles, we aim to place ourselves strategically at the crossroads of the world. Chi Alpha Campus Ministries is a missionary outreach to college and university students. Our task has four focuses. 1)We actively communicate the gospel on the college campus through whatever means possible, from personal contact (our primary and preferred method) to public presentations to Internet outreach. 2) We help Christian students to flourish in their faith by deepening their understanding of and participation in God's work. 3) We equip students to better minister to their peers. 4) we prepare students for their post-graduation life of ministry in the church and in whatever community God sends them to. The evangelist and seminary professor Michael Green has observed, "It is a mistake to imagine that people are hardened against the gospel. They are simply bored by the way it is so often presented—too rigid, too rationalistic, too uncomprehending of other world views, too small minded." We work hard to be sensitive, creative and personal in our outreach. We enter into the lives of students and communicate honestly, not relying on cliches or slogans, but on truth, empathy, and the power of the Holy Spirit. Discipleship is at the center of all we do. It is our desire to "make disciples of all men and women" (Mat 28:19-20). Scripture is clear that growth comes through the Holy Spirit and that the Holy Spirit works personally through our lives, primarily through Scripture and the community of believers. To this end, we focus on training students to study Scripture, and in the skills necessary to help each other to grow. The Apostle Paul tells us, "And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others." (II Tim 2:2) Therefore, all the training and skills we offer are taught in such a way that they can easily be passed on. Our goal is that our campuses will be reached for Jesus, that our students will be a blessing to the churches they find themselves in after graduation, and that they will be effective ministers of the gospel wherever God sends them. |
