Shaping the FutureWhat kind of future do you want to live in? What kind of future do you want to leave behind? The colleges and universities of the United States are the most powerful institutions in the world for shaping the future. This is where the minds of emerging adults are formed. This is where tomorrow's leaders are being trained. You want to know what tomorrow will look like? Spend some significant time on a major college or university. If Christians don't invest in college students, then we can't blame anyone else if we don't like the shape of the future. We have a responsibility to each new generation. Paul laid down the basic principle simply in 2 Timothy 2:2 : "And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others." Each generation must teach the next. We are not to rely on ministry momentum, we don't assume students will learn the truth by just hanging around us, and we certainly don't assume the world will do our job. Instead, we purposefully invest in the next generation. We intentionally pass on what Christ and his followers have invested in us. We are always one generation from becoming post-Christian. We are always one generation from starting over. We can't blame the world for falling church attendance, for a loss of Christian values, and a rise in godlessness. The world has always fought the work of Christ, but we are stronger than the world in Christ. It's not the world that's changed. It's us. Why campus ministry? Because it's about life and change and righteousness. It's about picking up the challenge of Christ and going out into the world, to one of the pivotal points in the world, and bringing change. It's about being obedient by bringing the truth to the next generation. It's about investing in the next generation so the tide can turn in God's favor. It's about building the future. |
