What is Our Affiliation? We are an interdenominational student ministry with denominational oversight and accountability. What does that mean? It means that we get the best of both worlds. The student work is interdenominational — The Christian students that come to our ministry are from all kinds of denominational backgrounds. We have no desire to change a student's church affiliation. Our task is to call students to those things that are clearly taught in Scripture and have universal application. We do ask our students to be faithful in Sunday church attendance since that sets the pattern for the rest of their lives, but we do not try to dictate what church they should attend. This removes a major obstacle for attendance, allowing us to minister to more students and have a greater impact on campus. Our Missionaries are Overseen and Accountable to Denominational Leadership — Chi Alpha Campus Ministries is a ministry of the Assemblies of God. While we work alongside several fine parachurch organizations, we have chosen another course. We appreciate the oversight and accountability that come from outside of our immediate missionary community. It is our hope that our donors will appreciate this accountability as well. We always have someone looking over our shoulders. They have our best interests in mind, but they are also protecting our students' and our donors' interests as well. Best of Both Worlds — This relationship has worked successfully for decades now. Our students have thrived in many denominational settings, and many churches of all stripes have benefited from the ministry of Chi Alpha. We are thankful that the Assemblies of God is more focused on building God's kingdom than on merely building themselves up, and our missionaries are very thankful for Assemblies of God's willingness to watch over and support us while giving us a place to belong. |
